When I first started, my mindset was full of limitations: “I can’t swim.” “I can’t run that far.” I couldn’t even swim a full length of the pool without stopping. My endurance journey began almost by accident—through bike riding after being prodded by a former physical therapy client. That led to local bike rides, monthly time trials, and eventually encouragement to start running. The real turning point came on a cold January Sunday morning when I took my first swim lesson with Kirsten Sass. That was the start of a journey that has now spanned nearly two years of coaching with her.

Fast forward to today, and the transformation still amazes me. I’ve completed three Ironman 70.3 races, two half marathons, multiple sprint and Olympic triathlons, and countless 5Ks and 10Ks. I achieved a sub-20-minute 5K, set a PR at Ironman 70.3 Augusta, and continue to chase new goals. I’m not done yet—plans for a full marathon and a full Ironman are on the horizon, along with new PR goals in the 70.3 and half marathon distances.

None of this would have been possible without Kirsten. Her wealth of knowledge in triathlon and endurance sports is unmatched, and her coaching is truly elite—coming from a champion in her own right. She supports every aspect of the journey, from training plans and pacing to race strategy and nutrition. Kirsten is always there: consistent weekly check-ins, open communication anytime training needs to be discussed, and unwavering support. Beyond being an incredible coach, she has become a great friend and has fostered an amazing community of athletes. I’m incredibly grateful for her guidance and couldn’t recommend her more highly.
